The Story of María

The frames around you trace our mother María’s journey from left to right. At 24, she left Mexico City for the United States and made her first home in the South Bronx. There, she worked as a seamstress in a textile factory. She knew she wanted to create something of her own, though she could not yet see what it would become.

A few years and many adventures later, María opened her first restaurant in the heart of Dover, New Jersey. Thirty-four years later, its doors are still open.

Her journey has never been a straight line. There have been triumphs and setbacks, but her perseverance, grit, and unwavering faith have carried her through them all. Taquería de María is the culmination of decades of hard work and our way of honoring the story she continues to write.
